4 Months Old on June 5th

27 inches long

17 pounds 3 ounces

On June 5th, about 3 weeks ago, Jax hit the 4 month mark!! He has gotten so big and so stinkin’ cute! I just can’t squeeze those thighs enough. We went to the Dr. and he is growing so much. When the Dr. walked into the room, Jax gave him the BIGGEST smile ever. The Dr. was like, “Well, I guess I don’t have to ask you if he is responding to you and interacting!” Oh my gosh Jax is a little heartbreaker. Believe me, he tugs on my little heart strings!

At 4 months Jax was (and I say was because I just know he has gained weight since) weighing in at 17 pounds 3 ounces (90th percentile) and was 27 inches tall (97th percentile). Could he get any bigger? Size 9 months clothes fit this little 4 month old like a glove.

The Dr. said that Jax is actually a little on the skinny side (if you honestly believe that 90th percentile in weight is skinny) for how tall he is. I was telling the Dr. that people are always like, “How old is he? 9 months?” I always have to correct them and let them know that he is only 4 ½. The Dr. was like, “Well, I have a feeling that he is going to be the 5 year old that everyone thinks is 7.” Apparently my milk is the equivalent of an Iceberg milkshake because this little guy is a growing machine.

Little Buddies

I have now been done teaching for about 3 weeks. I can't believe haw quickly they have passed. The school year ending was bitter-sweet for me. I was SO happy to be able to stay at home with Jax. I was so excited that I didn't have to take him to his grandma's to be babysat. But, shockingly I started crying with my class the last day of school because I was so sad I wasn't going to see those cute little hormonal 6th graders everyday! One little girl, who was also crying haha, was like, "Mrs. Gunderson, I am so sad the school year is over. I am going to miss you so much. You were like one of us." Isn't that funny?! One of us? Apparently, the student-teacher respect thing was a bit lacking for some of my students, but they were SO cute.
However, I could not be happier than I have been the last 3 weeks. I have bonded even more with my little buddy. He is ALWAYS with me. He ALWAYS smiles when I look at him. Being a mom is the greatest thing in the world. I don't think that I realized how amazing it was going to be. It is unbelievable the instant feelings of unconditional love you get the second your little baby enters the world.
Jax is getting more and more fun by the day. He looks you square in the eye when you talk to him. He fake coughs when you are sitting by him, but not giving him his wanted attention. There is truly nothing better than being a mom. I had such great experiences teaching school and got to be with so many cute kids, but I am so happy that I now get the chance to spend the next few years (haha probably like 50) as a mom. I didn't know that I was going to love being a mom as much as I do. I already am wishing that I was pregnant again just to get another little cutie here!!!

Jax and Gramps

Anyone who knows my dad will know that this picture proves he LOVES Jax. He doesn't just give up his perfectly comfortable TV watching place to just anyone. My dad will always lay pillows and a blanket out right in front of the TV. This is his spot. And, if you happen to sneak into it, you better count on getting kicked out when he gets back in the room. On Sunday I found Jax watching the college World Series with Gramps in the golden spot. He must be loved!! And one more thing, please tell me you love the little loafers Jax is wearing - courtesy of aunt Skye.

And the eating begins!!

Talk about milestone. I tried feeding Jax “food” for the first time last week. I started with the cereal. He didn’t seem to be much of a rice cereal fan. He would give a lick or two and be done. So, we moved on to bigger and better things – mooshed bananas.

Jax doesn’t seem to understand the whole open your mouth for food and swallow thing yet – what can you expect from a 4 month old? I would put the spoon in his mouth and he would, of course, start to suck on it. He would get a little in his mouth, but mostly it would just end up smeared all over his entire face. So cute.

He really seemed to like the taste of bananas, but doesn’t seem to quite get the eating concept yet. I don’t really want him to eat “food” yet, but I just thought it would be cute to try. I LOVE LOVE LOVE breastfeeding, and don’t want him to stop anytime soon. But, I just thought I would let him try it out. And, the little cutie still seems to prefer his mommy. But, I don’t think that will last too long. He STARES at any and all food that anyone is eating. He watches every second from plate to mouth. And the poor kid doesn’t get a taste very often…

What do we do with dad?

I think that it has become a habit that Chase and Jax get to take little naps together. While Chase doesn't really lead a life that permits many naps, he still finds time to make me jealous by letting Jax fall asleep next to him. I think it is so cute. The funniest part about it is that I get jealous! :) Whenever Jax falls asleep all cuddled up to Chase I am SO wishing that it was with me. I have even been known to take Jax away from Chase and try to reposition him snuggled into me...it doesn't usually work. Jax wakes up the minute that I try to take him away. But, it is worth a try, right?

*Just an FYI, the big 'ol dark spot on Chase's shirt in the bottom picture is Jax's slobber.

Pest Control or BUST!

Okay, so in my last post I gave a shout out to the Orkin man, but now he officially needs to come to my house! Yesterday I had a close encounter with one of the scary things pictured above. So, I went in to Jax's room to hangup a bunch of his clothes that I had left on the floor. I just laid him down on the floor while I was going to hangup the clothes. I reached over and picked up the pile of clothes and out jumped a HUGE - and I mean HUGE - spider. The little beast started to make a beeline to Jax. I freaked, as I am sure you can imagine. I screamed. Luckily, I had shoes on. I stomped on that thing about 5 too many times to make sure it was a goner. I picked it up with some Kleenex and went to flush it down the toilet. I put it in the toilet and, of course, examined it. It was FURY!! I don't know what is worse than a fury spider. I have been tiptoe-ing around for the last 24 hours sure that every black strip or speck in the carpet is a brother or sister of what I flushed down the toilet yesterday. Well, needless to say that I immediately let Chase know that we lived in the danger zone. We will be getting that pest problem taken care of this week!!

But, it could we worse. I heard about this today in the news...

California King snake found sleeping in baby's crib

Isabella and her mother, Cari Abatemarco, who live in upstate Troy, were spending the night at Abatemarco's parents' Brentwood home last week when Isabella's cries woke her mother. Abatemarco said she responded and found the snake, which family members said was 4 feet long, wrapped around Isabella's leg.
Isabella was unharmed. Islip animal control officers earlier had said it was a foot long. The family, which says it bought the mattress at a Bay Shore Toys R Us, claims the snake got into the mattress package through a rip in its plastic wrap, Gunn said. The snake then embedded itself in the mattress by crawling inside a cloth covering that is loosely
stitched to the mattress, he said.
Roy Gross, chief of the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said it is not uncommon for pet snakes to get loose and turn up on other residents' properties. The SPCA has picked up "about 93 different snakes and alligators over the last year," he said. The snake the Abatemarcos found, he said, "most likely was somebody's pet and it got into the house. They don't like extreme heat."The family has since returned the mattress, Gunn said.

This is just the small thing that the mom found in her baby's crib!
Umm..I would be FOREVER scarred.

Hot Tubin'

This is a picture from when Roen was in town. Both boys look a little haggered. Roen always seems to get an injury when he comes to visit Grandma's house. He has a "minor" nose scrape. Jax, on the other hand, is sporting what I think is a spider bite. I don't even want to think about a spider crawling into his crib and on to his face. But, in reality, I think it happened. Where is the Orkin man?!!

4 Months Old and L-O-V-I-N-G Summer!!

So, now that school is out I am officially a mom full-time...well, with hopefully a little summer tutoring on the side. But, I am loving just snuggling Jax all day long. He can 1/2 way roll over now! Haha..he gets stuck on his arm, but close enough right? I think so. What else can this little 4 month old do these days? Smile, giggle, sit up in the Bumbo, and SLEEP, SLEEP, SLEEP!! Oh, and lets not forget that he can also tip the scale at 16 pounds! Quite the accomplishments.

Brennan has officially graduated from high school! GO KNIGHTS!! He left on Heritage Tours the next morning, but is now part of the real world. Ought oh!!!! I remember when I graduated from high school 6 years ago - holy freak - thinking that I was so old and so ready to take on life. But, now I think that I am clearly stupider about life and how it works than I was the day I graduated. I think that is how it works though. Hopefully Brennan will have better luck than I did!! Brennan has an academic scholarship to the U in the Business Department. I'm no Utes fan, but I guess I will be supportive of that decision anyway. Go B!!!
